Greetings from TEXAS!!! It's actually the same as Oklahoma, but with less Cracker Barrels. Amarillo seems like a small run down city that's full of chain restaurants and hotels. We tried to sight see this afternoon, but there wasn't much to see... but let's start from the beginning.
We left OKC around 8 this morning with bitter wind but no ice on the roads. It was a stressful drive across the Oklahoma plains with the wind tossing our little car around, but we were both glad it was dry and sunny. We saw a lot of nothing exciting in OK, though there were a lot of wind farms!
Here's some nothing much interesting for you.
Still not much going on (still very windy though...)
Are we to Texas yet??
Oh! Here's a wind farm! Yay sustainable energy!!
We took a detour to Elk City, OK to visit the National Route 66 Museum but we were there around 9:30am and it opened at 2!

The museum.
A statue!
We left Elk City and continued west where we finally found this:
Yee Haw! We made it to Texas!
Texas looks the same as OK, but there was more of nothing, if that makes sense.
Flat flat flat for miles, no tree, nothing!
Seriously, it's really flat and desert-like out here...
It's still boring except for: cows!
This is near Amarillo though we don't know what it is.
Amarillo!
We made it to Amarillo around 12:30 and tried to check into the hotel but were rejected. We asked for some tips on sight-seeing and left with a nice pamphlet. It's Sunday today and the "good" museums are closed so we first went to Cadillac Ranch, which was ok, but neither of us were particularly impressed.
it says: #sbroadtrip2013 (it's our twitter hashtag, and clearly I'm no graffiti artist)
Yay for being in a muddy field in the windy/cold!
After Cadillac Ranch, I wanted to explore the part of town known as "Rt. 66 Historical District" or something like that, but it was just a very run down, depressing section of the old highway. Most stores were abandoned, some were closed because it's Sunday, but in the end there was nothing to do but browse an antiques mall. Benoit bought 2 things for a friend from home and then we high-tailed it out of there.
Our next stop was a bit out of town but by far the best decision we've made in a while: Palo Duro Canyon State Park. This is the 2nd largest canyon in the US and it's incredible! We loved this and very highly recommend it!
1 of 5 water crossings - no prob for the Fiesta!
mooo!
This state park was awesome, had lots of amenities (maybe too many), and very friendly people working there. Everyone should go! :)
I'll let Benoit finish up today with the stats and our Texas steakhouse adventure! Ciao until tomorrow!
And go Pats!!!
Benoit here. Tonight for dinner, we brainstormed about what we should eat, and we just couldn't get this magnificent cow out of our minds. So steakhouse it is. Yelp again was very helpful in order to find an independent place that is not a tourist trap. So we ended up at Hoffbrau Steakhouse where we had great fried pickles and great steak. What else can you ask for? After dinner, we still felt a little bit hungry so we went for ice cream at Braums. After all this food, the only thing left to do is to go back at our hotel and write the blog. See you tomorrow (and don't forget to comment if you wish)!
