Jan 10: Evening in Nashville

[Ce post en français]

Greetings from Music City USA! Who knew that Nashville was in Central time, not Eastern? Not us, but luckily our phones changed - how very smart they are! We welcomed the extra hour after being caught in a 15 minute (at least) backup on 40W near Gordonsville. A semi truck was on it's side in the middle of the 2 lanes. We'd never seen something like that.

We had 7:15 dinner reservations and thought we'd be late until we arrived at our lodging and it was actually 5:30, not 6:30. Phew! Dinner was at the fantastic Silo that Benoit found after searching for "hot chicken," which is apparently a specialty from Nashville. We really loved everything about this restaurant except for the pie and ice cream for dessert, but we rate it 5 stars (since you can't give 4.5).

Charcuterie with: rillettes, bratwurst, and fried pigs ears

Crawfish beignets

Famous hot chicken

Kale salad + mac & cheese

We took a walk around bicentennial park afterwards to digest and explore. We discovered a ring of columns that each contained a bell and played music. The weather is quite warm here tonight - we heard unseasonably so on the radio. We also walked around the WWII memorial plus the amphitheater. We were both impressed with downtown Nashville and find it very clean, well planned, and not what we expected.

We also agreed that we're lucky to have seen this at night because it probably doesn't look as nice during the day, especially with all the clouds we have now. We'll let you know though! Tomorrow the plan is to walk around here for a few hours, have brunch, then head to Memphis for some Elvis and BBQ.
